Planning Institute of Australia Congress
"A Climate for Change - Things are Hotting Up" was the theme for the 2008 Planning Institute of Australia Conference held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. This theme was chosen to challenge perceptions of planning, sustainability and the built environment.

The program also included a number of technical tours to various residential and commercial sites throughout Sydney including the post Olympic City, the changing harbour foreshore and a number of renewal sites such as the Everleigh Rail Yards and Woolloomooloo Wharf.
An expansive social program was also on offer including a 'pub crawl' around the historic Rocks precinct and 'Mystery Dinners' at a selection of Sydney's fabulous restaurants. The National Awards for Excellence presentation was also held during the conference to recognise and acknowledge quality, innovation and excellence in planning in Australia. The finale to the social program was a spectacular gala dinner.
Preceding the conference, the National Young Planners Group hosted its fourth National Young Planners Conference, YPConnect08. YPConnect is an annual event that allows young planners both students and graduates to have a voice on a national scale and to participate in professional development specifically targeted at emerging planning professionals. This Conference commenced with a study tour in the Sydney CBD and a welcome party.
The conference included a comprehensive trade exhibition.
